Development and Construction

“Good practise toward existing trees in the early development of a project prevents complications down the line.”

Trees are a material factor in development and construction projects and subject to planning guidance. We assist landscape architects, planners, engineers and architects with the management of trees in landscape designs and developments. Our tree surveys identify which trees are worth retaining and how to incorporate them into developments and new building layouts. We pride ourselves on our innovative approach to solving tree-related design issues and enhancing developments by ensuring the right trees are in the right position. We are specialists in managing trees near heritage building developments and have worked on many of the country’s most important historic buildings and landscapes.

BS 5837 (2012).

BS5837 is the primary guidance for tree related planning applications and crucial for anyone working on development sites that include trees. We provide expert arboricultural services in line with this. Our work includes tree surveys identifying the constraints and opportunities posed by existing tree stock together with Arboricultural Impact Assessments, and Arboricultural Method Statements. We can also liaise with planning authorities and supervise development works affecting trees.

TPO Permissions and Representations

Tree Preservation Orders are administered by Local Planning Authorities and are made to protect trees that bring significant amenity benefit to the local area. We are able to submit specific detail for tree works on behalf of our clients and where appropriate write reports in support of applications to undertake works to protected trees.

Tree work tenders and supervision

We offer a professional contract management service where tree works are required in relation to project work. This includes remedial tree work, woodland thinning and tree planting. Detailed specifications and contract documents can be produced and tendered to established contractors for competitive quotes and contractor liaison and supervision can be carried out where necessary throughout the work.

We work with our Specialist Partners Peak Ecology to offer high quality and affordable ecological advice and services to public and private sector clients. Their team of professional ecologists are licensed to work with a wide range of protected species in England, Scotland and Wales. Working with them we offer Ecological Surveys to support planning applications, together with Ecological Impact Assessments and associated recommendations. We also offer Biodiversity Audits and Action Plans to support developers and landscape restoration projects
